GCC Regathering Plan-Phase 2

GCC Regathering Plan-Phase 2

In this phase, we continue to follow the major four principles in our Phase I Regathering Plan—the principles of (1) corporate gathering, (2) love & charity, (3) civil obedience, and (4) sustainability. It is our prayer and sincere hope that all who have been vaccinated may attend church on-site (in person).

Phase II Planning Details

A. Who should come on-site?

  • We welcome and encourage all healthy individuals to join. However, we recommend those with underlying medical conditions who have not received full vaccination to continue to stay home to participate in online church service, Sunday School, and small group.
  • Even though the risk of exposure is low, we urge attendees to continue to exercise good judgment and bear personal responsibility while on-site, as our church, in good conscience, cannot guarantee 100% safety for anyone.
  • Please stay home if you or anyone in your family has flu-like symptoms—fever, cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat, etc.

B. What happens in Phase II?

We will continue to do everything covered in Phase I with the following:

  • The entire church facility is available for use
  • All are required to continue wearing face masks when inside the church building
  • Sunday Worship Services:
    • CM Service starts at 9:30am (CM Sunday morning prayer meeting starts at 9am)
    • We will expand seating capacity to the extent that safety measures allow, while maintaining social distancing. Please continue to follow seating arrangements.
    • Parents with young children (below Sunday School age) are welcome to bring them to the sanctuary to attend worship service.
    • The two nursery rooms are each offered to one family only.
  • Sunday School Classes:
    • Adult Sunday School is both on-site and online.
      • All Sunday School teachers are required to be on-site.
    • Children Sunday School
      • Love Class (preschoolers) will continue with online-only Sunday School at 5:00 in the afternoon.
      • Joy, Peace, and Patience classes are on-site and online during CM worship time (start at 9:30am)
      • Middle School Sunday School class is on-site ONLY (start at 9:30am)
      • Social distancing will be enforced within reason inside classrooms.
      • For families with both preschoolers and school-age children during the time of worship service, the preschoolers will stay with their parents in the sanctuary, while the older children will attend Sunday School (or Children’s Worship the 3rd Sunday).
      • For the second Children Sunday School class (during the EM Worship Service from 11:15am), it will be a combined on-site only class with all children whose parents attend the CM Adult Sunday School or the EM Worship. Activities of this class include singing songs, memorizing Bible verses, learning missionary stories, and doing crafts.
    • The Fellowship Hall is reserved for children’s worship once a month.
  • Fellowship lunch continues to be cancelled
    • Attendees may bring their own lunch and eat in the Fellowship Hall, but it is recommended to not share food with others. Please exercise your own precaution when eating with others.
  • The kitchen will be opened with limited usage
    • The water dispenser in the kitchen is available for use; we recommend attendees bring their own water/cup.
    • The refrigerator is available for use.
    • No coffee and tea will be served.
  • Small groups:
    • Decision for meeting in-person is up to each small group
  • Prayer meetings:
    • Continue to meet online, but Session may decide later to hold on-site meetings

C. Timing of Phase II

  • The decision on the timing of Phase II is based on the input from the Church Reopening Committee, the Health Advisory Team, and feedback from the congregation, including the following criteria:
    • Assessment on Northern Virginia COVID cases statistics
    • Assessment on Northern Virginia hospitalization rate with one-week downward trend in hospitalization
  • The Session has approved July 4, 2021 as the Phase II start date, to coincide with the new Sunday School quarter.
